Empowering Ijeirong

 Named after the “Ijei” river, Ijeirong is a village located in the Noney district of Manipur. With a population of 426 and 75 houses, 216 are males while 210 are females and literacy rate of 63.4%. It is mostly inhabited by the Inpui Naga tribes. Schedule Tribe (ST) constitutes 99% of total population in Ijeirong village.

  Currently in Manipur, ethnic tensions exist between different tribal groups. The Naga and Kuki tribes, both predominantly Christian, form a significant portion of the state’s population. These tensions have led to many conflicts causing loss of lives and suffering across whole state of Manipur. The Inpui people, along with other Naga tribes, have experienced the impact of this prolonged conflict on their everyday lives. While there are efforts towards development, there are also instances of corruption and conflict arising from resource allocation and developmental policies. Despite literacy rates being higher than the national average, employment opportunities remain scarce, especially outside the civil service.
