Located in the rural Mandya District of Karnataka, Pandithahalli School serves a rapidly growing student population drawn from surrounding villages, with a majority of students coming from Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and Other Backward Class communities. Since 2020, enrollment has grown from approximately 150 students to more than 900, reflecting both the quality of the school's educational model and the increasing demand for accessible English-medium education in the region.
Over the years, the St. Joseph's Boys School, Bengaluru, Batch of 1977, Social Responsibility Project has supported a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing both learning opportunities and student development. The school's library was expanded to include thousands of books, encouraging a culture of reading and discussion. Athletic facilities were upgraded, annual sports competitions were introduced, and a martial arts program was established to help students develop discipline, resilience, and self-confidence. These programs were modeled after long-standing traditions at SJBHS and adapted to meet the needs of a rural student community.

At the same time, significant investments were made in STEM education and technology. The partnership led to the creation of the Fr. Peter Pinto Science Lab, providing students with access to hands-on scientific learning, and the establishment of the Loyola Technology Center, supported by Learn for Life Foundation and the Joy Thomas Foundation. Through the technology center, students gained access to computers, digital learning platforms, and online educational resources that had previously been unavailable to many rural learners. These investments sought to bridge the digital divide and ensure that students could develop the skills needed for success in a rapidly changing economy.
To support this growth, Learn for Life Foundation, KJES, and the SJBHS Class of 1977 launched the Green Energy Project, a pilot initiative centered on the installation of a 25 kVA hybrid solar power system. Beyond reducing electricity costs and mitigating frequent rural power outages, the project seeks to create a sustainable model that combines renewable energy, environmental responsibility, and student learning. Through climate clubs, energy monitoring activities, and sustainability programs, students gain hands-on exposure to clean energy while developing an understanding of environmental stewardship.

Today, Pandithahalli School stands as a powerful example of what can be achieved when educators, alumni, community leaders, and supporters work together around a shared mission. Through sustained investment in infrastructure, STEM education, literacy, athletics, mentorship, and student well-being, the partnership continues to create opportunities for rural students to thrive, pursue their aspirations, and become future leaders within their communities

The Green Energy Program at Pandithahalli School uses solar power as a platform for student learning and leadership. Through climate clubs, energy monitoring, and sustainability activities, students gain hands-on experience with renewable energy and environmental stewardship. The project encourages young people to become active participants in building a more sustainable future while supporting the school’s transition to clean, reliable energy. It also serves as a model for other Jesuit institutions across Karnataka.
At the Loyola Technology Centre (LTC), sponsored by Learn for Life Foundation, Pandithahalli students enjoy next-generation education with expanded access to content in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Students work through Khan Academy course content on Lenovo Thinkpads at their own pace, guided by in-class mentors who provide technical support and hands-on pedagogical activities.
The SJBHS '77ers' focus on upgrading Pandithahalli's academic facilities has resulted in the establishment of the Fr. Peter Pinto Science Lab, thanks to a generous sponsorship from Prasanth & Padmaja Sakhamuri. The Lab allow students to connect classroom theory with practical experiments in physics, chemistry, and biology. With unfettered access to a high-quality STEM education, students have the opportunity to develop in-demand skills and uplift their communities.
Thanks to a generous donation from the SJBHS '77ers, the students of Pandithahalli have been given the greatest gift of all. The Anil & Vaidehi Gowda Library boasts hundreds of books, transporting students beyond course content to a world of curiosity. Reading for pleasure supercharges students' fluency and overall confidence in their communication.
For a young person, a triumph on the sports field can transform into lifelong confidence. SJBHS '77er Sanjay Sani's martial arts studio has proven instrumental in Pandithahalli students' self-esteem and growth. Some have gone on to win local and district competitions, and are now competing at the state level.

Our partnership with Pandithahlli School began as a social responsibility initiative led by alumni of SJBHS Bengaluru Class of 1977. Now, in 2026, the alumni group works closely with school leadership to transform the students' educational experience.
