Katie Ackerman Scholarship
Loved by all who knew her.
I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one,
I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when the day is done
I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways
Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun.
Of happy memories that I leave behind when the day is done.
Katie Ackerman (July 11, 1989 – September 13, 2012) loved her large circle of extended family and friends but she had a special place in her heart for children. She worked part-time in office administration while she was pursuing a degree in Forensic Psychology. During her off-hours she loved to take care of children. Katie was also a registered organ/tissue donor.
In memory of her love for children and their education, Learn for Life has established the Katie Ackerman Scholarship. The scholarship will fully finance the care and education of students for a period of four years at the Sneha Care School. The scholarship will be awarded by an Advisory Committee that includes the Ackerman family.

Ambika R is the winner of the Katie Ackerman Scholarship. She is sixteen years old and is in the 10th Grade. Her goal in life is to be become a doctor. Her favorite subject is English.
Ambika and her family are from the Kolar District or Karnataka, India. Her father was a driver and her mother was a housewife, but both passed away due to HIV-related illnesses. At first, her uncle took care of her, but could not continue to do so due to his work schedule. The Community Care center in Kolar referred her to Sneha Care where she’s been a student since 2011. Her uncle keeps in touch with SCH and Ambika visits him during the holidays. He is the only member of the family who knows of her condition. Ambika is a very hard working girl with an excellent academic record at SCH. Her teachers find her to be very responsible, neat and punctual for all the activities.
